:( I just bought a new hose yesterday, now you tell me I shouldn't have used it on my bike :p.

Anyway thanks for all of the advice on bicycletutor.com, learning to do everything for myself is a big thing for me as biking is my only transport besides my feet and taking my bike to the bike shop and waiting is not an option if I'm heading off to work.

Hi Alex!

I became a biggest fan of yours since I've noticed this website and your explanations about bikes, and I was wondering how could be good if there were some people like you on the world, teaching and sharing your own experiences as a mechanic and a bike lover to so many people, not only Americans but outsiders just like me.
Thanks for the videos and keep going on, making ever bike riders life's (and, why not dreams) becomes more joyfully, just as mine.

Maybe, someday I become as good as you on bikes! ;)

Thanks!

(sorry for my bad english... haha)

I would never recommend using a hose to clean your bike... it'll get water in your bearings and pivots points. I always just use a damp rag.

Hi Alex,

cool vid! Does it hurt to use a water hose to clean a bike even if it's not high pressure? Also, how thorough do you have to be to make sure any dish soap or Simple Green residues aren't left on the drivetrain, etc?

Thanks,
Alex

Are they the stock pads your bike came with? Could be the pads are too big for your rim type. It could also be a lot of other things... have you seen the sidepull adjustment video?

Alex - I just recently watched your tune-up video and it was fantastic. However, I am having a problem with my rear brake lever on my Trek 1000 road bike being too high. The brake pad on the rear right side brushes up against the bottom part of the tire even with the pad lowered all the way. I made sure the wheel was centered and I adjusted the screw on top of the break caliper but it still rubs. What should I do?

I highly recommend the Schwalbe Marathon Plus. I've been using mine for years. The tread last a long time, is smooth on the road, but handles gravel very well. They are pricey, but they come with an embedded kevlar belt that prevents flats!

Hi Alex, I'm finding the tutorials really useful. I have a great shop near me who are the kind of people who won't try to sell you something you don't need. For example they talked me into buying a cheaper bike that suited my needs better - every day to work.

The tune up video is really helpful as I do 120 miles a week and so now have a way to confidently make sure the bike is in good shape after my weekly checks.

Many thanks

Maurice
